That’s the fifth time Mahrez has scored the first goal of a City game this season and he’s one off 20 for the season. Mahrez goes close to a second as he is played through by Grealish but his effort is deflected over. 60' 0-1KEY EVENTGOAAAL! City finally find the opener! Mahrez cuts insdie and curls one into the far bottom corner from a tight angle to break the deadlock. 51' 0-0Simon BajkowskiCity need to wake upCity need to wake up at the start of this second half, with Peterborough getting closer and closer to the goal. Jesus and Grealish look like players that haven’t played in a few weeks, and it may be time soon for the likes of Bernardo and De Bruyne to come on and offer more of a goal threat. 49' 0-0Daniel MurphyGreat chance for PoshPosh work a long-throw routine which sees the ball land perfectly for Szmodics but he scuffs it wide.
Peterborough United vs Man City LIVE goal and score updatesManchester City will be hoping to take one step closer to winning the FA Cup on Tuesday evening when they face Peterborough United. After already defeating Fulham and Swindon Town in the tournament, it's another match against lower league opposition for City, who have faced the Posh just once in their history - also in the fifth round - in 1981 which was won 1-0.
One minute added. 39' 0-0Simon BajkowskiThe Posh are doing wellThe longer Peterborough hold out, the more confidence will swell in the team and around the ground. City haven’t played badly but the home side will definitely be the happier if it stays like this until half-time. 32' 0-0Daniel MurphyBenda downBenda collides with Fernandinho as he collects a corner and lands hard on his back. He's now down getting treatment but looks okay to continue. 29' 0-0Daniel MurphyGundogan curls one wideGundogan picks the ball up inside the box and attempts to bend a shot in at the far post but it's just wide. Now City attack again with a sweeping move, Grealish drives inside but his shot is blocked.
Pep Guardiola may be expecting a few more goals this time around at London Road and looks like he could name a strong side. Liam Delap, James McAtee, Kayky and Sam Edozie were all in action for the Under-23s in their 0-0 draw with Leicester City on Monday night, so are unlikely to be involved from the start even if they are in the squad. The boss has also confirmed that Aleks Zinchenko will start following an unbearably tough week for the Ukrainian. You can follow all the build-up, action and reaction right here. 21:55Daniel MurphyGive your ratings for today's gameRate the playersPeterborough0Man City2FA Cup, Tuesday 1st, 2022FT: 0-2Daniel MurphyFull-time: Peterborough 0-2 Man CityThe Blues are through to the quarter finals! 90' 0-2Daniel MurphyIt should be three! Here are our picks to make it into the second round:Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City, Bolton Wanderers, Gillingham, Barnet, Barrow, Bristol Rovers, Burton Albion, Buxton, Tranmere Rovers, Charlton Athletic, Cheltenham Town, Lincoln City, Crawley Town, Leyton Orient, Doncaster Rovers, Ebbsfleet United, Fleetwood Town, Gateshead, Plymouth Argyle, Dagenham & Redbridge, MK Dons, Newport County, Peterborough United, Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town, Hartlepool United, Swindon Town, Sutton United, AFC Wimbledon, Wycombe Wanderers, Cambridge Town, Oxford United.
6' 0-0Simon BajkowskiNot the best pitchThe pitch is not the best, and looks particularly sticky in the corner of the pitch where Mahrez and Cancelo would be wanting to be in possession this first half high up on the right side. City may have to be less wide than they would like as a result. Mahrez then blames the turf after spooning a cross into the stands. 2' 0-0Daniel MurphyBit of a kit clash hereBoth teams are wearing white sleeves today and both kits have a substantial amount of blue, too. Not the easiest to watch. 1' 0-0Daniel MurphyEarly scare for PoshJesus closes down Benda in the Boro goal and he kicks it against the Brazilian.
88' 0-2Daniel MurphyNot a lot happening As the clock ticks down to the 90 City are in total control and are seeing this game out. 78' 0-2Daniel MurphyMore Posh changesCoulson and Ward go off for Burrows and Mumba. 75' 0-2Daniel MurphyFoden has an effort from distanceFoden hits a shot from distance but Benda saves. 69' 0-2Daniel MurphyFernandinho bookedThe Brazilian got involved with a bit of handbags with Szmodics and they've both been booked.
Jones, Szmodics and Poku go off for Clarke-Harris, Brown and Marriott. 67' 0-2KEY EVENTGOAAAL! Grealish makes it two! Foden plays a magnificent ball over the top to Grealish who takes it in his stride before slotting home. What a goal! 64' 0-1Simon BajkowskiThe differenceThat is the beauty of having world-class players in your team: they can create something from nothing when all around are struggling to show their value.
28' 0-0Simon BajkowskiCity need to get some shots on targetCity are seeing plenty of the ball and are working their way into the box but simply haven’t tested the home goalkeeper enough, Grealish in particular looks like he just needs to be greedier rather than always trying to find a teammate. Peterborough haven’t had as much of the ball but have actually tested Ederson more. 22' 0-0Daniel MurphyThe real entertainment isn't on the pitch20' 0-0Simon BajkowskiCity having to be patient City showed at Everton how patient they can be and they are having to wait for their opportunities again tonight, with Peterborough threatening on the counter - Dias and Ake are not the paciest and with Cancelo and Zinchenko pushing forward there is plenty of space in behind them. Guardiola knows how his players can pick the right moment to strike though so won’t be too worried at this stage16' 0-0Daniel MurphyAke bookedAnother long ball looks to send Jones through and Ake is forced to take him out. A deserved booking and another worry for City.
How to watch the FA Cup first round on TVThe first round of the FA Cup is upon us and that means a host of fascinating matches will be played up and down England and Wales across the weekend, featuring teams from multiple levels. England's oldest and most exciting competition will be mixing all levels of the football pyramid by the time the third round comes along, but a lot of teams will have two games to navigate their way through before the Premier League and Championship sides arrive. Across the weekend, five different games will be shown on TV in the UK. Hereford v Portsmouth will be shown on Friday night and then the Saturday match on TV will see South Shields host Forest Green Rovers. As they are garnering plenty of attention under their Hollywood ownership, Wrexham's match against Oldham Athletic will also be on TV on Sunday, followed by Torquay United v Derby County.
The FA Cup second round draw will take place on Monday, November 7 at 19:00 GMT. That means it will lead into the first round match between Bracknell Town and Ipswich Town. There will be 40 teams taking part in the FA Cup second round but at this stage, there are no new entries to the competition. The 40 teams will be the winners of the second round matches.
A moment later there is another one as the ball is pulled back into a dangerous area for Grant but Foden does really well to cut it out. Worrying start. 45' 0-0Daniel MurphyBack underway The second-half has started, with City bringing on Stones and Laporte for Ake and Dias. HT: 0-0Daniel MurphyHalf-time: Peterborough 0-0 Man CityNot an awful lot to report on as City have had plenty of the ball but no real shots on goal. The Posh have looked threatening on the counter. 43' 0-0Daniel MurphyHard blow for AkeAke wins a header but then lands square on his back. He needs a moment but is now back up on his feet. It didn't look fun.
14' 0-0Daniel MurphyPosh threat clearBoro have already had a sight of goal and they look dangerous when long balls get sent over the top and their forwards can get in behind City's defence. Jones looked to do just that before he was disposed but there's clearly a way for the home side to get at City. On the rare occasions they get the ball that is. 9' 0-0Daniel MurphyBig Ederson saveA ball over the top sets Fuchs away and he gets a shot off from a tight angle which Ederson does well to get down low and palm wide. He then catches the resulting corner. 8' 0-0Daniel MurphyBit of Cancelo magic Cancelo gets to the by-line and on three separate occasions, he dummies his marker before clipping in a cross. City keep the ball and restart the move, knocking the ball around nicely before Zinchenko fires over again.
Peterborough United Peterborough have progressed from their last 12 FA Cup first round ties, last falling at this stage in the 2005-06 campaign against Burton Albion. Salford
